The Hoxton Vet describes itself as an independent practice founded by Dr. Maureen Murphy, positioning itself as “run by vets, not corporations,” with longer 20- or 30-minute consultations and options for clinic or home visits (as stated on its website). The clinic appears set up for preventative care and dentistry (including scale-and-polish and extractions), plus travel documentation support.
In recent reviews, multiple owners describe clear explanations and being seen at short notice, including for a dog recovering from a “mishap.” Several cat owners also mention support during end-of-life and more thorough investigation for an ongoing condition (one review cites a cat’s liver condition with step-by-step updates). There is also a detailed 1‑star account alleging serious problems with long-term care, billing for services not delivered, and lack of follow-up—which conflicts sharply with the largely positive experiences described elsewhere.

Maureen (and Patrick and Remy) have been great with our spaniel. They've been clear with their advice, seen us at short notice when we've needed it, and taken great care of Cola. Caring, authoritative and reassuring, just what we want in a vet! He's recovering nicely from his latest mishap!

A refreshing experience. I took my boy Felipe in for a consultation and check up as he’d been having some issues with his back legs. The attention and level of care was superior to what I’ve experienced at mainstream vets, very grateful to have an excellent practice in the local area finally!

The entire team at the Hoxton Vet looked after our cat, Goldman, for the three years or so that we’ve lived in East London, and the quality of care was consistently impeccable. We sadly lost him recently, and they were incredibly supportive throughout the process, making something so horrible as pleasant as it could possibly be.

I had such a great experience with this clinic! Maureen helped me on more than one occasion, including sorting all the paperwork to bring my cat to Italy and everything went perfectly. It’s hard to find vets who genuinely care about your pet the way the team at The Hoxton Vet does. I couldn’t be happier with their service and highly recommend them! Thank you so much! ⭐️

The Hoxton Vet have provided fantastic care for my beloved cat’s ongoing liver condition. Unlike larger more corporatised practices, where I felt his issues were dismissed with quick fixes like probiotics or anti-nausea meds, and I it felt like I wasn't taken seriously, the hoxton vets carried out a thorough investigation and kept me informed throughout, were transparent and allowed me to be a part of all steps. Every member of staff was kind, professional, and respectful, and took the time to understand me. I have complete confidence in the care my much loved cat received and would highly recommend The Hoxton Vet.

RIP Clementine (2021–2025) Please read before trusting this vet with your pet’s life. After my cat was attacked by a dog, I turned to this clinic expecting care and support. Instead, I watched her spiral—while the people I trusted to help stood by and did nothing. She died at just four years old. I believe if I had gone elsewhere, she’d still be alive. Spoiler alert: They never asked how she died. Never followed up. Never cared. As her behaviour worsened—met only with dismissive suggestions like pheromone diffusers and food changes—I eventually found her inside the washing machine, dead, after she’d consumed a large amount of dry beans. Trauma had clearly altered her behaviour. No one at this clinic took it seriously. This clinic presents well in emergencies, but long-term care exposes serious issues. Why I urge you to avoid this vet: -No empathy: They do not care about you or your pet. -Unethical billing: Took payment for services not delivered. Dodged calls for weeks. Refused refund. -Negligent care: Refused anxiety meds despite obvious post-attack distress. When her appetite changed, I was told to “just try new food” and given a post-it with brand names. -Manipulative responses: Cited suicide rates in their profession to deflect my complaint—utterly inappropriate and emotionally exploitative. -No accountability: No follow-up. No resolution. No responsibility. After Clementine died, I started reading other reviews and saw the pattern: glowing emergency care stories... followed by devastating one-star reviews from people whose pets needed real help. Mine was one of them. Read the Vet's responses to complaints to know what level of gaslighting you are in for. I was comfortable paying a premium because I believed Clementine would receive the best possible care. She didn’t. If your pet has complex needs, trauma, or simply deserves competent, compassionate care—go elsewhere. I wish I had. If this helps even one person avoid what I went through, Clementine’s story will have made a difference. Please like this/thumbs post if it has helped you to make an informed decision.
